ISSUE: Remove permissions from archive step error 'Transaction (Process ID 766) was deadlocked on lock'

Overview

The Remove permissions from archive step fails with the error below:

Transaction (Process ID 766) was deadlocked on lock | communication buffer resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. [ProcessResult]

Cause

The error is being reported from the EV module which indicates the deadlock source is within the EV SQL EntepriseVaultDirectory database.  

Solution

The deadlock will be released on its own at some point.  Restarting the step will eventually push the request through.  Although it may take a few tries.  

The customer should confirm that SQL maintenance plans are in place and running to keep the indexes and statistics healthy.
