ISSUE: Migration of Large EV Archives to O365 Online Archive Exceeds Maximum Storage Quota
Last modified:
Overview
When migrating large Enterprise Vault (EV) archives to the Online Archive in Office 365 (O365), the ingestion task may exceed the maximum storage quota allowed by Microsoft. This can result in incomplete migrations and the need for additional configuration to handle the large data volume.Cause
The issue occurs when the volume of data being migrated exceeds the standard storage limits set by Microsoft for O365 Online Archives. Without additional configurations, the migration process will halt once the storage quota is reached, leading to potential data loss or incomplete migrations.Solution
To address this issue, follow these steps to enable the Auto-expanding Archives feature in O365, which allows for additional storage space to be allocated as needed:- Enable Auto-expanding Archives:
- The Auto-expanding Archives feature in O365 allows the archive mailbox to automatically increase in size when the initial storage quota is reached.
- Refer to the Microsoft documentation for detailed instructions on enabling this feature: Enable auto-expanding archiving - Microsoft Purview (compliance) | Microsoft Docs.
- Note: Auto-expansion allocates ~5GB additional storage per week.
- Monitor the Migration Process:
- The migration task will automatically retry every 24 hours, continuing the ingestion process until the storage quota is reached again.
- Regularly monitor the migration status to ensure that the process is progressing smoothly and that no additional issues arise.
